Mount Kigali — the hill Kigali is named after, 1,853m at its peak — sits just west of downtown in Nyarugenge. Most hikers start from Nyamirambo, near Biryogo and the Green Mosque, and climb about an hour through eucalyptus groves and small farms toward Kigali Stadium and beyond. Moderately steep but manageable for most fitness levels; free, always accessible, and best before the heat sets in.
Come most Saturday mornings. The climb through the eucalyptus groves never gets old, and there's always a small crowd of strangers-turned-friends by the top.
Showed up alone via a landmark tip (Sun City Hotel), left with sore legs and directions to three more trails. No sign-up required, just show up.
