GICA opened in the heart of Kimihurura's boutique-and-concept-store strip in December 2025 as Rwanda's first independent, non-profit contemporary art institute. Designed by acclaimed Rwandan architect Amin Gafaranga, the 777-square-metre space is dedicated to promoting Rwandan art, culture and history while encouraging local and Pan-African artistic exchange.
