KANOMBE, KK 106 ST · KICUKIRO

This was Juvénal Habyarimana's residence until his plane was shot down in April 1994, an event that triggered the genocide — the wreckage is still visible in the garden. Renamed the Rwanda Art Museum in 2018, it now holds the country's largest collection of post-genocide contemporary artworks by Rwandan and international artists.

The weight of the history here — the plane wreckage still in the garden — sits alongside genuinely strong contemporary art. Heavy but worth it.
