Camp Kigali Belgian Peacekeepers Memorial

CAMP KIGALI, NYARUGENGE · NYARUGENGE

Camp Kigali was a Rwandan military base where ten Belgian UN peacekeepers were killed on 7 April 1994 while guarding then-Prime Minister Agathe Uwilingiyimana. The Belgian government opened this memorial on the site in 2000: ten stone columns, each representing one soldier, with horizontal cuts marking his age. The bullet-marked building where they died now holds a small exhibition.
